Structural Problems

The following pages analyze of how worker cooperatives operate in practice to illustrate various problems. Many of these issues artificially disadvantage worker cooperatives relative to other businesses. They result in a low rate of worker cooperative startups, tend to limit the asset size of worker cooperatives, and reduce incentives for membership growth. Further they create or exacerbate time horizon problems that tend to reduce investment of profits back into cooperatives.
